Employee Recognition & Engagement - Working for Essex
Be brave with your ideas. We’re changing lives here.

You’ll belong here

At Essex County Council, challenging work happens every day – on the frontline and behind the scenes. In return for your dedication and talent, you deserve to feel a sense of belonging, involvement and recognition.

We have a whole team dedicated to this goal. We want you to connect with the organisation’s leaders, employee networks, employee awards and employee communication channels in a way that’s truly individual.

We do this in many ways, including:

Employee Networks

Nothing is more important than harnessing the potential of our increasingly diverse workforce. Being an employer of choice is a big goal for us, but even more vital is reflecting the communities we serve and creating a true sense of belonging for all our colleagues.

Our networks include:

  • Ethnically Diverse Employee Network (EDEN)
  • Carers Forum
  • Christian Network
  • Disabled Employees Network
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Network
  • Parents Network
  • Women’s Network
  • Young People and Apprentice Network.

The employee networks are our collective voice – trusted sources of connection, camaraderie and information for their members. They are bringing change to our organisation in areas that matter.

You can find out more about the work of these employee networks:

‘You Make The Difference’ Awards

These annual awards are one big celebration of people. They give employees the opportunity to nominate individuals or teams who go above and beyond for our residents and help keep us a high-performing organisation.

YMTD 2019 Awards Night

You Make The Difference awards night was a chance to recognise our employees and the teams who make all the difference at Essex County Council.

Take a look at our 2019 nominees coming together, for a team bonding experience, to celebrate being recognised.

For 2020, we wanted to recognise and celebrate the exceptional efforts of all our employees, during what was an extraordinary year. We held a virtual celebration, We All Make The Difference, where everyone across the organisation was invited to attend a special event aimed at acknowledging the fantastic achievements of all Essex County Council employees.

Employee Surveys

We listen to the voices of our people and take action on what we hear – through surveys such as our biennial Your Voice Employee Engagement survey, employee interviews, panels and other forums.

Chief Executive and Leader Roadshows

Our Leader, Chief Executive and Corporate Leadership teams front these roadshows – updating our colleagues on all the latest news from around Essex County Council. Since 2020, these events have taken place virtually, enabling us to continue to engage with our employees on key initiatives and important updates, including our recovery from COVID-19, wellbeing support, and much more.

Employee Panels

Our Employee Panel includes 30 colleagues from across the organisation who meet every two months to discuss and lead on a wide variety of organisational topics.

The panel changes every year so the organisation is always hearing from different voices.

Being a member of the panel offers a great chance to feed back on a range of policies and initiatives, network with colleagues and influence far-reaching changes.
