Service Design

It’s an exciting time to join Essex County Council’s new Service Design team. Our ambition is to re-imagine public services to be faster, better and cheaper; building on the success of the Government Digital Service to establish new professions and agile ways of working within one of the UK’s largest local authorities.

We’re looking for great people who want to develop their careers with us, and help us to transform the lives of Essex residents. Working at ECC gets you right to the front-line of public service delivery, at the point where good service design and a positive user experience can really make a difference.

This is a unique opportunity to design across a diverse range of services, from Adult and Children’s Social Care to Highways, Waste and Education. You’ll work in multi-disciplinary teams alongside service users, front-line professionals and commissioners, insight, policy, technology and delivery colleagues.

The Service Design team is part of our new Corporate Development function, which has been created to lead the thinking and development of services that are fit for the modern world. We take career development very seriously, and will support you to do things differently. We’re trialling innovative approaches to learning with our Futures Academy, and offer a wide range of training and mentoring plus the opportunity to work with some of the best service design and digital agencies in the country.

We are committed to working in the open and putting user-centered design at the heart of how we do things. If the idea of being part of a team that makes a real difference appeals then we’d love to hear from you.
