We are looking for HR and OD professionals who are at the top of their game and who are passionate about developing modern, business focussed solutions, and who are not afraid to challenge and try something new. The challenge we have at Essex County Council is massive, the opportunity is even bigger. This is your chance to bring new and modern ways of doing things to one of the biggest county councils in the country, where you will be encouraged to share your ideas, experience and be at the heart of creating and delivering best fit solutions.
We also have an ambitious organisation strategy and great agenda of change. Supporting that agenda is a team of over 6,500 people, so it’s vital our Organisation Development & People function delivers a people plan that enables strong individual and team performance, adding more value for the citizens of Essex. A key building block of our organisation strategy is our People Plan that sets out a clear way forward, investment across our entire workforce and we need to get started.
If the idea of being part of a team that makes a real difference to public service and to the lives of the residents of Essex appeals to you – then this is the place for you. You may currently be working outside of local government or even the private sector but looking to showcase your skills on a larger stage and focussed on business performance which has a real impact on people’s lives.
The public sector workforce is facing big change and in three years’ time will look very different from today and require us to work in different ways to continue to serve our residents.
We do not know exactly yet what our workforce will look like throughout 2018 and beyond. However our work here will help us identify and plan what we do know about the attributes and capabilities we want our future workforce to have to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead. For example, we know already that all of us must have the digital skills necessary to operate effectively in today and tomorrow’s hi-tech environment.
Our workforce strategy will address 4 key themes:
Creating the right conditions:
When our employees come to work we want them to have the best possible experience with nothing stopping them from giving your their all each day. We want employees to feel a personal commitment to our organisational objectives and behaviours, but equally importantly to also enjoy a sense of personal satisfaction and wellbeing.
Staying ahead of the curve:
We need to get ahead of the curve. We will achieve this by harnessing the power of people analytics to determine and influence what the DNA of our workforce looks like in 5 years’ time. We already have a good foundation to do this as we collect vast amounts of data. We will maximise the value of our people data and deliver robust action plans to ensure we create the future workforce we need. To do this we need the best technology in place, and to ensure our business processes are as efficient as they can be.
Transforming Passion into Impact
We want the best people working for ECC. This is why we will be working hard over the coming months to strengthen our attraction as an employer and developing a strong brand for Essex. We want to be a desirable place to work that is diverse and promotes equality. This means creating the conditions that enable a supportive and motivational work climate, encouraging employees to build collaborative and productive partnerships which will shape and drive efficiencies and innovation and sustainable transformational change.
Enabling growth and development
As part of our Organisation Strategy we have identified the need to develop new skills and ways of working. We are very conscious of the challenging times we are living in – staying still is not an option, the skills we currently have are not the ones we will need in the future. This means that as an organisation we need to become better at supporting you to renew your skills, and this needs to be done at a faster pace. Here at ECC we have always had a range of opportunities for employee growth and development to hand, such as skills training or coaching, mentoring or leadership development programs. As an organisation we want to ensure we continue to offer the right opportunities for everybody to develop and grow and we want to work with everyone to ensure you can take ownership of your own development.
If you can't see an opportunity that you want to apply for in our Organisational Development and People function, but are really interested in joining our talent pool, please send a copy of your cv and a covering letter to email@example.com.
