Select the apply button at the bottom of the relevant advert. Accept the Privacy Agreement and Sign in to your Working for Essex account to apply for the role. If you haven’t set an account up yet, select the ‘New User’ option and follow the steps on screen.


Yes, sign into your candidate portal and select “My Account Options”. Scroll down to the Job Notifications section and select edit.

Under the Agency Worker Regulations, you can apply for any internal or external vacancy, subject to eligibility checks.  All applications should be made through our career web site.

Once you’re signed in to your candidate portal, select the My Jobpage Tab.  Your application will show under the Completed Applications section.


Yes, select save as Draft. To continue with your application, please sign in to your candidate portal, select the My Jobpage tab and you will see your application under Draft Submissions. Select “Finish Draft Submission” to complete your application. N.B – please check the closing date of the vacancy as you will not be able to complete your application if the job has closed.

You can withdraw or cancel your application in your candidate portal by selecting the “My Jobpage” tab and selecting “Withdraw.”


If you choose to withdraw an application it won’t affect any other applications you’ve already made or might make in future.


You can update all of your details (names, numbers and addresses etc.) when you’re logged in to your candidate portal by selecting “My Account Options” and editing your Personal Information section.

When completing your application, make sure your work history covers your entire working life.  If there are gaps of more than 28 days, and you apply successfully for a role, you may need to explain them. You’ll also need to provide professional character references for these gaps.

An unsuccessful application, either before or after interview, won’t affect any applications you make in future.

Various Essex County Council sites have different parking facilities, so please check before you travel to ensure you are able to park freely. If you are working in a Chelmsford location, we have two Park and Ride sites which provide easy access to the town centre. Information on the Park and Ride can be found on the Essex Highways website.

Yes, do attend as this doesn’t preclude you from driving.  Please remember it is a legal requirement on the licence holder to ensure that personal details are kept up-to-date and no responsibility will be accepted by ECC or ERT/Capita Resourcing for any penalty resulting.  A driving licence with an incorrect address cannot be used for proof of address purposes.

Yes. For permanent roles which require a DBS check, and where you have lived or worked overseas for more than a year, over the age of 10, a criminal records check from that country will need to be provided. Please ensure this is discussed and verified at your compliance meeting.

Please ensure that all names you have been known by, including aliases and nicknames, are declared. You will be required to provide documentary evidence of name changes.  Please make sure it’s addressed at your compliance meeting.

Temporary roles

Please let your recruiter know and mention it at your compliance meeting.  You’ll need to ensure your limited/umbrella company isn’t registered overseas, and that you have insurances to the following minimum values: public liability £1 million, professional indemnity £1 million, employer’s liability (only if applicable) £5 million.

Log into and click on the timesheet icon Log into your account using the username and password provided and select the time sheet you’d like to submit and input the hours/expenses required. Click on the ‘submit’ button at the bottom of the time sheet.

Time sheets are required to be submitted and approved by Essex County Council management by 12pm on a Monday to ensure payment on Friday of the same week. If this deadline is missed, payment will be issued the following Friday, providing the time sheet is approved.

You can amend your time sheet in submitted status by editing and saving over the top of the time sheet. If the time sheet is approved, then please contact Essex Candidate Care on  or 033 005 83330 who will help you.
