The Opportunity
As a Weighbridge Operator you will be
- The first point of contact on site and responsible for managing all site traffic and visitors.
- Lead on all Weighbridge duties within the Essex County Council waste service.
- Directly responsible for organising collections with 3rd parties and keeping accurate records of waste levels to always ensure capacity for site users against contractual KPI’s.
- Liaison with 3rd Parties, Contractors, and internal staff to ensure a cost effective and efficient service is provided to site users and drivers.
- Responsible for ensuring that all legal obligations and regulations are met.
- Lead on arranging maintenance for the Weighbridge system and reporting of defects to eliminate down time and negative impact on the service.
- Manage all visitors and site users to ensure they comply with strict Health and Safety regulations as well as Environmental. Liaising with statutory inspectors such as the Environment Agency or HSE.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for the operation of the weighbridge system in accordance with the Duty of Care regulations, site rules, safe systems of work and risk assessments.
- Manage traffic coming onto site and check incoming loads, ensuring compliance with site licence and permitted waste types.
- Accountable for ensuring all drivers are inducted and aware of site rules and health and safety requirements.
- Accurately record weights and waste types by vehicle, completing appropriate documentation and collect driver signatures etc.
- Immediately report any contamination or non-conforming wastes delivered to site to your Line Manager.
- Report any anomalies/errors to the weighbridge system to the Line Manger
- To ensure that essential records are required relating to the post (e.g. waste movement, duty of care, consignment notes) are completed fully, promptly and accurately. This may be written or electronic.
- Complete quarterly audits of waste data in accordance with Environmental permitting regulations and for financial budgeting purposes.
- Assist with accident and incident investigations and issue out Tool Box Talks to staff and drivers.
- Assist the Site Supervisor with compliance paperwork and site inspections to ensure statutory compliance with environment and Health and Safety.
- To carry out any other duties commensurate with the post as required to meet the needs of the service.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Qualifications/Training – Desirable minimum GCSE (or equivalent by experience) in English and Maths.
- Knowledge – Working knowledge of waste duty of care requirements.
- Experience – Experience with weighbridge software. Previous experience working within waste sector.
- Skills - Ability to learn and use computer systems and packages. Good communication skills both written and verbal. Good numeric skills. Competent in the use of databases, spreadsheets, word processing including Microsoft Word.
- Character – Self-confident with the ability to organise and direct incoming and outgoing vehicles. Honest and reliability
- Availability/Locality/Mobility – You will be largely based at a council Waste Transfer Station but may be required to work at any other location as required.
