The role allows some opportunity for working from home, however it will predominantly be based out in the field auditing and checking paperwork in locations around Essex as well as working from our central office in Chelmsford.

The Opportunity

Essex Registration Service is one of the largest registration districts in the Country, serving thousands of customers in the Registration of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships.

We are looking to bolster our Training and Quality Assurance Team, who play a key role in ensuring that the service is complying with external and internal regulations and organisational controls. This is achieved through service audits; ensuring that stock is stored securely and monitored appropriately; creating and reviewing detailed reports; and by actioning, where needed, any improvements required. By doing so, the role ensures that Registration staff are delivering services across the county in line with statutory requirements, and that that they have the skills and expertise to do so.

This role will participate in meetings with individuals and service teams to present and update on the audit process, making recommendations for improvements and providing relevant, informed suggestions. You will also lead on training and induction within the registration service, competently designing and delivering effective training sessions, whilst having the right approach to providing high quality feedback and advice as appropriate.

Working as part of a team is essential to achieve service targets and objectives. Excellent communication skills, resilience and organisational skills are also key to ensure that quality and assurance underpins the service’s overall provision.

You will need to be able to work at pace to identify service risk and noncompliance, highlighting remedial measures and corrective action. You will also be capable of developing, delivering, and embedding changes to process and procedure to improve service quality.

The role is accountable for:

  • Ensuring regulations are adhered to as set out in the Handbooks provided by GRO (General Register Office) and that are reviewed during GRO Audits and Assessments.
  • Delivery of effective training for frontline registration staff across all roles, through induction, assessment and review.
  • Working collaboratively within and across registration teams to define requirements and deliver quality, timely and professional levels of service.
  • Building strong relationships with external partners to ensure compliance with all external and internal regulation.
  • Implementing changes to improve areas of work, whilst ensuring that the highest possible levels of service quality are continually delivered.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance within all legislative requirements.
  • Ensuring specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined and met annually within the performance management framework.

About you

We are looking for a strong and proactive Training and Quality Assurance Specialist to join the existing team. The successful candidate will have experience or an in-depth understanding of working in a high-quality audit environment, with evidence of embracing change and working collaboratively with partners to improve customer service.

You will be proficient in proactively dealing with complex issues, confident in following procedures and policies, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively.

You will use best practice when organising training and knowledge sharing sessions to upskill staff, monitoring and reporting on success criteria and ongoing points of failure. You will be used to managing several tasks at the same time, paying attention to fine detail and working within an auditable environment. You will be proud to finish tasks by required deadlines and to support colleagues during times of change.
