Working to support adults, and their families, who have complex social needs and are more vulnerable as a result of disability, exclusion, or diminished capacity, you’ll maximise their potential to live independently.

With case work focusing on the most complex and challenging adult cases, you’ll ensure that adults and their families are safeguarded. You’ll share ideas and best practice, providing specialist advice as part of a multi-disciplinary team sharing your knowledge as a Social Worker.

We currently have an opportunity for a Social Worker to join our Countywide Enhanced Support Out-Reach Team.

The Team

This role would suit an experienced Social Worker looking to work alongside Adults with a complexity of needs related to their Learning Disability/Autism, Mental or Physical Health or a combination of all the above. The successful candidate would have a real interest in relationship-based social work, with a focus on building independence through a positive approach to risk and the strengths-based model.

This role will work closely with adults placed in supported living accommodation and residential care. Working with the adults, alongside providers family members and advocates to undertake Care Act reviews with a focus on helping to develop independence and progression.

We are looking for a social worker who would like the opportunity to work in a team where the focus is on relationship-based work and building independence through a positive approach to risk and the strengths-based model; supporting adults through case management and developing discharge pathways out of hospital. This role requires close partnership working with a range of partners, including health and the Court of Protection.

This role sits within our Countywide team supporting adults living within all areas of Essex and out of county. The role will be community based and home working with the flexibility of being based from any of our Essex locations for administrative purposes, however please be advised that Countywide travel is required as part of this role and there will be an expectation to work from ECC and health buildings across Essex where appropriate. Flexible working patterns including condensed working over 4 days can be considered.

About You

To apply you should be a qualified social worker with a current Social Work England registration. You’ll bring at least 1 year’s post qualifying social work experience, evidence of continuing professional development, and capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards.

There is a need for attention to detail and positive knowledge of not only the Care Act and Mental Health Act, but also the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty and Court of Protection procedures.

The postholder will be confident in person-centred and positive risk-taking approaches.

This role involves travelling around Essex. A driving licence and car - or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means - is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service.
