The North Essex Physical & Sensory Impairments team support people from eighteen years old with a wide range of conditions and difficulties including (but not exclusively): Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke (CVA), Huntingdon’s Disease and Fibromyalgia. The team is made up of social workers, a specialist sensory social worker, Occupational Therapists and Community Support Workers.
The team co-work with adults, families, NHS colleagues, Housing, Mental Health and provider services to improve people’s lives and wellbeing. They always encourage adults to be as independent as possible through focussed support.
With experience our social workers become subject matter experts around physical disabilities for colleagues within the team and in the other adult social care teams in North Essex. We welcome social workers both with experience of working with people with physical health difficulties and those who have a passion to learn.
We are looking for a social worker who has experience of working with sensory impairment, can undertake deafblind and sensory assessments or has a keen interest and is willing to train in these areas.

About You
To apply, you should be a qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration. You’ll bring significant experience of social work, modelling good practice and providing advice and guidance in complex situations. As, as a subject matter expert in relevant professional practice, you should have a comprehensive understanding of current legislation, regulations, and guidance. With experience of chairing meetings involving clients, family members, carers, and other multi-agency professionals, we’re looking for your ability to develop strong relationships with partner agencies and the local community to provide a supportive framework for vulnerable adults.
You’ll also bring:
- Evidence of continuing professional development and capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards.
- An in-depth understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages.
- The ability to make clear decisions, to highlight and limit potential risks associated with intervention.
This role involves travelling around Essex and beyond. A driving licence and car - or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means - is essential.
