The Role

We are looking for people with sound knowledge and keen attention to detail here to take responsibility for own assigned caseload, preparing reports and making recommendations on planning applications and planning related matters. The successful candidates would prepare appeal statements for decision/clearance with the Senior Specialist Coordinator or Lead Specialist for Development Management. Working within a team of Specialists of Level 1 and Level 2 skillsets.

These roles will act as a point of contact between Council Members and the service in relation to Development Management issues and respond to service-related requests, complaints and FOI requests whilst providing support to other officers within planning and other internal teams. Guiding applicants through the planning process to include the delivery of robust, timely and comprehensive pre-application advice.

The Opportunity

At Maldon District Council, we are currently going through a Local Plan review as we no longer have a 5YHLS. Whilst this presents a number of challenges for the authority, it has resulted in a high volume of interesting and challenging pre-application queries, planning performance agreements and planning applications being submitted to the Council. The quantum and complexity of the proposals coming forward has resulted in us needing to grow and strengthen our Planning Team. These new challenges provide exciting career opportunities for ambitious planners wishing to develop and progress their career in Development Management.

This is a great opportunity to continue own professional development with career progression opportunities within the structure. The Council are keen to develop its staff providing support through formal and informal training, coaching and regular case conferences. These roles require working as part of a collaborative team.

Accountabilities

A methodical and through approach to routine tasks and when dealing with detailed work are essential to success in these roles as well as the ability to use own initiative, meet short deadlines and commitment to the provision of a high-quality service to customers.

Effective time management, prioritisation skills and communication skills that make you stand out from the crowd are vital. To fulfil these roles, you must be able to give both informal and formal presentations, be confident in your communication channels with key stakeholders across the organisation and its customers.

The Experience You Will Bring

We are looking for people who are self-motivated and can work under pressure with minimal supervision. A positive, solution-finding approach is vital to work whilst achieving targets and meeting deadlines whilst being able to demonstrate being a team player. Preferably a current member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
