Are you a highly motivated, experienced senior or principal planning officer who understands the complexities of delivering large scale and strategic development proposals? Would you like the opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs)? Are you looking for a new and interesting challenge working for a highly motivated team addressing the infrastructure challenge in a significant growth area? This is new role will be demanding, yet varied and rewarding.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of an established planning team at Essex County to deliver a strong, robust planning response to proposed large scale and strategic development proposals (primarily NSIPs) throughout Essex. This post is initially fixed for 2 years, there may well be opportunity for extension, dependent on budget and continuation of the long term projects. The successful candidate will be acting as a lead planning officer for the county delivering a single, corporate response to proposals, incorporating the infrastructure requirements from an array of service areas, and being the interface with the districts and boroughs, developers, other partners and interested parties.

This role will primarily manage and deal with a caseload of NSIPs but there may also be opportunity to work on some challenging and complex large scale and strategic development proposals. The role will help to ensure ECC is able to successfully influence the planning process to secure policy compliant planning decisions which deliver the correct level of developer funded infrastructure. Excellent project management, negotiation, written and communication skills are a must. This is a real opportunity for the right person to shape and influence significant growth projects to ensure that they positively contribute to the local community in the short, medium and longer term.

Please note this role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area and therefore a valid driving licence and use of a car is required, unless the role can be undertaken effectively by alternative transport
