(All posts are subject to the NJC conditions of service)

We want to do things differently here in Basildon. We are creating a place where our people prosper.

As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment.

We are looking to recruit a Principal Lawyer/Manager with significant experience to lead our dynamic Property & Contracts team, to help us deliver the Council’s objectives and ensure the highest standards in conducting business both internally and externally. This is an exciting and varied role in a supportive and friendly team, reporting directly to the Head of Legal and Democracy. It involves engaging directly with the executive leadership team and Councillors as a trusted advisor on issues such as the regeneration of Basildon town centre, whilst ensuring that good governance arrangements are in place to support effective decision making.

This position represents exciting career development opportunities in a professional and flexible environment. Previous experience within a Local Authority or other public sector setting, is essential.

In return, we will offer a competitive salary, technology to enable hybrid working, flexible working and most importantly a culture of support, collaboration and a ‘can do’ approach. At Basildon Council every job matters.

We are anticipating holding interviews as soon as possible after the closing date, so please keep W/C 29th November in mind. The date may, however, be subject to change in exceptional circumstances, in which case successful candidates will be advised accordingly.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Paula Harvey, Head of Legal & Democracy on 01268 208167 or Lyndsey Smith, Principal Lawyer and Manager of the Corporate Legal Team on 01268 207804.
