Place Services is a multi-disciplinary practice within Essex County Council, with expertise in ecology, arboriculture, landscape, countryside management, urban design, planning, archaeology and built heritage. We provide environmental assessment, planning, design, and management services to the public sector. We specialise in partnership working with local planning authorities in Essex, London, the East of England, South-East and East Midlands. Our purpose is to support the public sector to deliver sustainable development, enhancing and conserving the natural, historic, and built environment, and achieving well-designed places.
Following a decade of growth, we are looking to appoint a Practice Manager to take a leading role in delivering our ambitions for the future.

About the role
As a member of our senior leadership team, you will be responsible for the effective development and delivery of our business and administrative functions, creating the right conditions for our experts to excel:
· Through detailed and insightful analysis and planning, you will inform the direction of our business and the way we achieve sustainable growth.
· Through diligent financial control and management of resources you will ensure we remain commercially viable and continue to deliver value for money.
· By improving our systems and processes you will affect efficient service delivery, making us fit for the future.
· By managing communications, client relationships and customer experience, you will enhance our reputation and recognition of our brand.
· By cultivating a progressive team culture and building our collective capabilities, you will ensure everyone achieves their potential, boosting performance and meeting our client’s changing needs.
· By ensuring service compliance, and overseeing health, safety, and well-being, you will manage our risks, protecting our business and our people.
We are looking for commercially astute and forward-thinking candidates who have substantial experience and expertise in business, finance, and administration, preferably gained working within professional services.
Motivated by passion for the environment and a strong public sector ethos, you will be an effective communicator with the desire to deliver great customer service.
You will also be an outstanding organiser with excellent people management skills, able to influence and develop positive cultures and high performing teams and to build and sustain relationships with our clients.
The ability to complete methodical analysis, including to inform business planning and strategic decision-making, and to identify improvements to systems and processes, is essential.
Knowledge of relevant business practices, legislation and regulations, and a sound understanding of health and safety, and well-being, is also important.
