The Opportunity:
We have an opportunity for a Plant Workshop Supervisor to lead our Workshop team in Braintree.
The Role:
Working across the two workshops - plant and fleet - you will undertake a range of servicing and repairs to both small plant/hand tools and LCVs. This will include tractors, mowers, sweepers, transits, tippers and small tools, all in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. You will plan and prioritise the work ensuring all documentation and service records are kept up to date.
You will be responsible for providing technical advice and induction training on the use and maintenance of all plant and equipment and will need to follow Health & Safety legislation and risk assessments.
Experience:
To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold a recognised qualification in garden machinery service engineering or have significant relevant repair and maintenance experience along with experience of leading others, plus have a full clean driving licence with entitlement to drive up to 7.5 tonne vehicles.
You will need to be a positive team player who can motivate other and provide supervision where needed. To manage your own time effectively and be self-motivated. You also need to be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, managers and suppliers.
Flexibility around working hours is required as you will be required to work seasonal hours in Summer/Winter.
Accountabilities:
- To manage the daily work programmes for the plant fitters ensuring the best use of resources at all times.
- To schedule and undertake all programmed and planned servicing and responsive repairs to a range of plant and equipment, including tractors, gang mowers triples and small tools in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines.
- To undertake emergency repairs on site and in the plant maintenance workshop.
- To plan, programme, coordinate and prioritise work including the winter overhauls in accordance with manufactures specifications and recommended guidelines. To operate all plant and equipment in accordance with Manufacturers guidelines and all Health and Safety Legislation including safe working practices, risk assessments and COSHH.
- To ensure all waste products produced as part of the plant workshop function are disposed of in accordance with relevant legislation including the hazardous waste regulations.
- To provide technical advice, guidance and documented induction training to Street Scene Services Staff on the use and maintenance of all plant and equipment.
- To complete and process all documentation and maintain all service records up to date.
- To requisition all materials by obtaining 'best price', maintain stock levels and assist in stock takes and reconciliation.
- To manage the in-house procurement system (eProc) raising purchase order numbers, dealing with queries and updating the invoice register
- To Update and maintain the in-house Fleet Management System (Fleet Check) with all work undertaken
- Attend a quarterly finance meeting with the group accountant ensuring budgets are maintained and any spend is accounted for efficiently.
- To support and deputise for the Transport and Plant Supervisor and undertake any other duties as detailed by the Operations Manager.
- To advise the Service Unit Manager when plant and equipment becomes uneconomical to repair.
- To oversee and support apprentices contributing to the Council’s Investors in People commitment.
- To assist the Transport and Plant Supervisor in the selection and recruitment process.
- To advise on the selection, testing and procurement of new machinery and products.
