Exact work location: Candidates should be able to attend the Council offices in Letchworth Garden City typically 2 day per week, subject to service needs with remote working and flexible hours to be discussed at interview.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manager to join us as our Development and Conservation Manager to lead the Development Management and Conservation service, and to develop the operation and service delivery.

The Opportunity

To lead and co-ordinate the work of a busy planning service, shaping the future of the North Herts District. You will manage two development management teams (DM and Major Projects), the cross-team enforcement and monitoring service, a small conservation team and the technical support team who work across all disciplines. You will be responsible for managing and leading colleagues in presenting items to the Planning Control Committee

The Experience You Will Bring

  • You will have significant experience in development management as well as experience of leading a team.
  • You need to be well organised with proven verbal, written and presentation skills, good pro-active negotiation skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
  • You should also have a high level of IT literacy, possess initiative and good interpersonal skills.
  • You will have a relevant Town Planning qualification with membership of the RTPI
