The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity to take the lead on the re-procurement of the Essex Highways contract and support its commissioning.

Essex is an ambitious County. The Essex Highways service manages and maintains one of the largest highway networks in the country: 5,100 miles of roads and around 4,000 miles of footways. The service is a delivery partnership between Essex County Council and our contractual partner. You’ll help us to shape the future of the service, so we can shape the future of highways.

Working closely with Members and senior officers, you will bring together diverse skills and expertise to achieve great outcomes for Essex residents, businesses and highways users. From maintenance of roads, footways, street lighting, to road safety, network and traffic management, and many other services, you will develop a highways model that innovates and delivers. We will look to you to translate our vision into contractual outcomes that help improve Essex’s economy, environment and health.

We expect you to have professional accreditation from a body such as the Institute of Highways & Transportation, the Institute of Civil Engineers or the Institute of Highway Engineers. A significant track record of delivering highways and transportation contracts is vital.

Confidentiality of information must be maintained at all times during and after your employment. This means that you must not divulge information of a confidential, sensitive or commercial nature gained during the course of your employment for any purpose.
