The Role

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape and help re-imagine our new City Centre for the future. A new role for a new City!

We are looking for someone to help set this current context and tell our exciting story as we move forward. We need someone who understands how important bringing the future to life is, engaging our communities, using a diverse range of techniques and tools to reach everyone. Someone who can tackle the challenges, keep on the front foot of fast-moving change and opinion and tailor the approach to suit a wide audience.

The Opportunity

The role delivers Essex County Council’s and Colchester City Council’s inclusive approach to the future vision of Colchester City Centre and each investment project planned: ensuring local communities and partners are aware of and help to shape development plans for each project; delivering strong regular communications through the project; and fostering relationships with partners and communities.

The role will oversee the marketing and communications approach – including working with both local authorities, the Team Colchester Board, external consultants and consultation organisations and the in-house communications and marketing teams.

You will deliver a comprehensive PR and communications strategy to promote each investment project. Explaining its vision, why it’s needed and important innovations; support ongoing planning and delivery with effective engagement, information and communication; work with the wider authority teams to develop themes including heritage, active travel, ecology and climate change as well as supporting colleagues through different stages of planning and delivery.

Accountabilities

As a member of the City Centre team, you will develop and drive the PR and communication strategies and delivery plans to promote the vision and investment projects of Colchester City Centre.

Build strong links with partner communications teams and with local media outlets and other influencers. Innovate and develop new ways of working and ideas for communications, communities and partnerships, and work in partnership with communications and community’s colleagues across our strategic team on shared learning and good practice approaches.

The Experience You Will Bring

Ideally, you will have a communication, public relations, journalism and/ or marketing background in a similar role. Experience of developing and delivering communication strategies including on-line, news, media, digital campaigns is a must.

To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to grasp business strategy, decision-making and risk management to the organisations and partners involved. Have excellent interpersonal skills including relationship building, collaboration and diplomacy with senior managers and stakeholders. Be a self-starter with initiative and drive.
