Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Black Swan Care Group to recruit a Chef for their residential care facility, Valentine House.

This is a part time position working 24 hours per week.

Black Swan Care Group has been involved in the Care Sector since its founding in 1991. The Company started as Business Consultants to the Care Sector primarily instructed to give advice to UK Banks, before purchasing its first Care Home in 1994. Since then, Black Swan Care Group have been providing care to elderly adults and adults with learning and/or physical disabilities through the East of England.

Valentine House is an elderly care home in Silver End, a small village in Essex, between Braintree and Witham. The Home is a large care facility able to accommodate up to 50 residents, including special support for those living with Dementia.

Black Swan Care Group are looking to recruit a Chef to join the fantastic team at Valentine House. This is a great opportunity to join a home where you can work closely with the Manager and their team to deliver the best care possible to our residents and supporting their independence.

Duties include;

  • Implement and review standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the kitchen, in line with the Health and Safety Act, relevant Food Hygiene Acts and Company Procedures
  • Pro-actively maintain all kitchen equipment as per manufactures guidelines and report all faults
  • Prepare food in accordance with menu specifications and monitor food cooking and presentation standards in line with the Manager and Resident’s requests
  • Ensure an adequate system is in place to check all food deliveries are correct and of good quality and that all deliveries are temperature probed, recorded, stored correctly and stock rotated
  • Maintain a well-balanced nutritious diet taking into consideration special dietary needs and requirements as set out in Residents Care Plans
  • Take Resident’s menu choices daily from the planned menus using the correct Company’s menu choice form
  • Conform to the Homes food hygiene policy and Food Safety Policy.
  • Aid the care staff when they are assisting those residents who wish to take an active part in the preparation of meals

In line with government legislation, all colleagues who work in a CQC registered care home or will need to attend such a setting as part of their role must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of 11th November 2021.
