The role

Essex County Council’s registration service is looking to appoint and train suitable people as Ceremony Officers to conduct and register marriages and civil partnerships, as well as delivering citizenship, naming and renewal of vows ceremonies.

A ceremony officer role with Essex County Council is varied and rewarding. If you enjoy working with the public, are a confident public speaker and have an aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail, this could be the role for you.

As an Essex County Council employee, you will play a key role in delivering Statutory elements of Marriage and Civil partnership ceremonies.

We will train you to deliver non-statutory ceremonies such as naming ceremonies and renewal of vows, in addition to citizenship ceremonies. Training will include undertaking these duties relating to ceremonies, including conducting the ceremony and registering the marriage/civil partnership.

The main requirement is that as a Ceremony Officer, you will need to be flexible and adaptable. The work is year-round and you will be required to work some Saturdays and/or Sundays and bank holidays.

This role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area including travelling around the county of Essex. A driving licence and car or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential and your expenses will be covered.
