Southend-on-Sea Borough Council recently achieved the national rating of three stars and improving strongly in the latest Comprehensive Performance Assessment published by the Audit Commission. This is the Council’s best ever result and – according to the Audit Commission – is one of the best improvement rates in the country.

In order to improve even further on this result, the Council is continuing to invest in its main resource; its staff. Successful candidates will join a dedicated and passionate workforce of more than 5,000 people, all fully committed to providing the very best possible service to the people who live, work and visit Southend.

As a place, Southend has a lot to offer as a place to live and work. Seven miles of award-winning beaches, the longest pleasure pier in the world, more than eighty parks and open spaces, great schools, fourteen historic conservation areas, numerous museums theatres and art galleries... and that’s just for starters.

As a unitary authority, the Council is responsible for major services such as education, libraries, social services, highways and waste management. It also represents the town of Southend's interests in a number of areas, including health, community safety, regeneration and environmental matters, and ensures that a diverse range of services are provided.

With so much variety, Southend really does offer something to suit everyone. So, whether you are interested in clerical work or building trades, social care, I.C.T. or teaching, there may well be a job to suit you within the Council.
